Here’s something to whet your appetite – David Beckham and a plate of pie and mash. Which is tastier, Dave or the food? That’s down to opinion, but it’s a very close call.
Dave ’s been busy filming – and seemed pretty excited for his lunch. He wrote: “Pie & Mash Friday on set”.
He’s a massive fan of pie and mash, being an East End boy – and grabs it whenever he’s in the UK. It’s not exactly a dish that they’re going to go crazy over in LA, is it?
In the past he’s been reported to have spent £1,000 on the stuff – from his favourite pie and mash shop in Waltham Abbey, Tony’s Pie And Mash.
According to The Sun, the footballing legend was apparently desperate to enjoy his favourite dish on board a private flight from the UK to America in December, and forked out especially to get it on board.
David Hulme, who runs catering company On Air Dining, told The Sun: “A sports star who used to fly back and forth from London while based in the US wanted pie and mash with green liquor.
“It cost over £1,000. For us to get it, take it to the airport and get it through security cost a fortune.”
A friend of Becks said: “There were times David took a private flight from London and ordered pie and mash. I doubt it would have been this price. But that was a matter for the plane company.”
A rep for David added: “It’s complete rubbish.”
Earlier this year he posed next to the comfort food and wrote: “Pie&mash nothing better.”
“Reminds me of grandad,” he added.
