Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s estranged husband has opened up about the pop star for the first time and admitted there is “someone else” in his life.
Breaking his silence on their split, Jean-Bernard told us: “It’s been a tough year, I’m trying to move on. I’ll never think badly of her. She is a great girl.”
The restaurateur, 35, and Cheryl separated in October, but are yet to finalise their divorce.
Jean-Bernard added: “I’m still a married man, but there is someone else.”
He and Cheryl wed on the Caribbean island of Mustique in July 2014 after a three-month romance.
Cheryl and ex husband Jean Bernard
Speaking about how they first met, J-B said: “I fell in love, what could I do? I didn’t know Cheryl was famous when I met her.
“I was having a party at my house in South Africa and she turned up, but I didn’t know who she was. I always go for very beautiful women.”
Cheryl, 32, filed for divorce in January citing “irreconcilable differences” and
is dating One Direction’s Liam Payne, 10 years her junior. They live together in LA and made a red-carpet appearance at the Cannes Festival last week.
There were fears the lovebirds might bump into Jean-Bernard as his pop-up restaurant Cosy Box has returned to the French Riviera, yards from the festival site.
They have so far avoided any encounters. Meanwhile the Frenchman has been linked to Cheryl’s former pal Vanessa Perroncel, 39.
Jean-Bernard was also spotted out with Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson, 48, at the VIP Room in Cannes, but insisted they are just “good friends”.
He said: “I’m not going out with Vanessa, I’ve known her for 10 years and she has a boyfriend. Me and Pamela are good friends. She is a great girl. We were also with Paris Hilton that night. Just because you are out with someone, doesn’t mean you are in a relationship.”
Jean-Bernard, whose restaurant is booked up, added: “I’m just a normal guy, I didn’t want to be in the public eye. I’m not a celebrity. My restaurant is doing well, but it was doing well before I met Cheryl. I’ve been coming to Cannes for 10 years.”
