The scripted reality shows were some of the first of their kind, and we probably wouldn’t have our favourite toffs or the Essex lot on our tellies if it wasn’t for their Californian forefathers.
From Lauren Conrad to Stephanie Pratt and Brody Jenner, we take a look at what happened to the cast members from The Hills and Laguna Beach after the shows ended…
Lauren Conrad (Laguna Beach and The Hills)
Lozza was often involved in fiery fallouts with Heidi Montag and was our favourite cast member from both programmes – but we bet she wouldn’t have been able to predict how great the reality shows were going to be for her career.
Since leaving the show the all-American girl has forged a successful fashion and media career. She’s writing a bestselling novel, LA Candy, has launched several fashion lines, and has her own lifestyle website.
Lauren recently claimed that she was “locked in a basement” by producers during the on-screen wedding of Heidi and Spencer – though producer Adam DiVello claims that Lauren wasn’t actually locked in, and that she was just being kept away from nemesis Kristin Cavallari until it was time to film a tense exchange between the pair.
Brody Jenner (The Hills)
We didn’t realise it at the time, but Brody was part of one of the most talked-about families in the universe – the Kardashian/Jenners, and he went on to star in Keeping Up With The Kardashians – though he’s now publically distanced himself from Kim and co.
An insider told Life & Style: “This is Brody’s wedding and he doesn’t need any Kardashian drama.”
Audrina Partridge (The Hills)
We loved Audrina for her drama-filled on-screen relationship with boyfriend Justin Bobby, as well as her fallout with Heidi Montag.
After leaving the show, Auds went on Dancing With The Stars, where she finished in seventh place.
Her home was also famously burgled by The Bling Ring in 2009 – with the events going on to make a Hollywood film starring Emma Watson.
She also appeared in a film called Take Me Home Tonight.
Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt (The Hills)
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt
Where WASN’T the drama with these two? The couple got married on screen – and though they were accused of having a showmance, have stayed together.
After Heidi had a TON of plastic surgery (she confessed to having ten procedures in one day), she also tried and failed to make it as a pop star.
The couple are now reality show royalty, having appeared on Celebrity Big Brother , Marriage Boot Camp and the US version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.
Kristin Cavallari (Laguna Beach and The Hills)
Kristin was the shows’ resident mean girl – and had fights with Lauren over their love triangle with Stephen Colletti.
After leaving the show, Kristin went on to do Dancing With The Stars, as well as several film roles in movies like Wild Cherry and Spring Breakdown.
She’s now a mum to three kids, and is happily married to Chicago Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler.
Stephanie Pratt (The Hills)
Stephanie, sister of Spencer Pratt , was initally a foe to Lauren– but they ended up being mates by the end of the series.
When Steph left the show she got into trouble for a DUI – and has also admitted to taking drugs and shoplifting.
She’s now a regular on Made In Chelsea – where she dated Spencer Pratt – and has recently been involved in a WHOLE lot of drama with the girls on the show after admitting she fancied cast member Alex Mytton, who’s in a relationship.
And remember THAT Celebrity Big Brother romance with George Gilbey of Gogglebox fame? The mind truly boggles.
Stephen Colletti (Laguna Beach)
Stephen was at the centre of a love triangle with Lauren and Kristin.
All that acting practice paid off because he ended up with a role on One Tree Hill. He’s also appeared in Taylor Swift’s video for White Horse, and was an MTV presenter for a while.
Whitney Port (The Hills)
Whitney left The Hills for The City – and had her own NYC-based reality show with Lauren Conrad for two series, following their attempts to make it at Teen Vogue. Olivia Palermo also starred on the show.
The fashionista went on to grab a judging role in Britain And Ireland’s Next Top Model – as well as starring opposite J Lo in What To Expect When You’re Expecting.
She’s now married to Tim Rosenman.
