Ever since Cheryl married J-B, he has proved an international man of mystery.
Unlike other famous halfs, he never cared for the red carpet and there were rumours he barely spoke English.
But after meeting up with him in Cannes – and spending several hours in his company – it’s easy to see how Cheryl fell for him so quickly. His enthusiasm and charm, for instance, are infectious.
No sooner had I said “hi” at a late-night film bash than he embraced me and said: “Let’s get a drink.” He introduced me to his friends – including Robert De Niro, who was plugging new film Hands of Stone.

The party carried on at J-B’s restaurant Cosy Box. The walls may be adorned with cheesy chat-up lines like “I wanna make you part of my meal plan” but he didn’t ham it up with me.
In fact, he was the perfect gentleman. And he’s good on banter, as we joked about how well he speaks English. “I studied in New York, I learned English way before I met Cheryl,” he said. And I can confirm he can speak in full sentences.
At 2am we headed to VIP Rooms, where we were joined by Kate Moss’s sister Lottie, plus Pixie Lott and Sid Owen.
But J-B made a swift exit at 4am to prepare for work the next day. Having partied for 10 years in Cannes, he is now fully focused on his business.
With four days of the festival left, let’s hope his hangover isn’t as bad as mine…
